Ben is a writer struggling to conjure the first sentence of his novel, Mary is a frustrated reader who works in a bookstore. Ben and Mary live in the same suburban neighbourhood, they get their coffee at the same coffee shop, they are both missing something, or someone, from their lives. It seems as though they are doomed to dance around one another, never able to bridge the gap between them. But fate has other things in store for them as their longing and subconscious conspire to draw them together. Without knowing how or why, they seek each other out in the most unlikely way.
