The book is written chronologically and details the events leading up to the Chinese military's attack and dispersal of the protesting students at Tiananmen Square on June 3, 1989. The book also chronicles how Mr. Tong escaped from China after the Tiananmen massacre. He is now a student at Brandeis University and lives in Waltham, Massachusetts.
