The film "Status of Life" accompanies four young women in South Africa's townships and in Lesotho. How does life feel for these women beneath the omnipresent risk of getting infected or becoming a rape victim? How is it possible to live a halfway normal life under these extreme circumstances? Humor is one method, denial another. Their common ground: the hope for a fulfilled life, with and without the virus.
