After all, we can't exactly encapsulate one's identity just by looking at a person's face. The same goes for Uleng. He was named after charcoal due to his dark complexion, but this man is nowhere from being dark and brooding, as what other people might think. On the contrary, Uleng grew up to be an optimistic young man, who was extremely close to his brother Ryan, even if Ryan was quite different from him in terms of looks. However, the brothers' carefree days together were marked by a tragedy, as their mother leaves them because of poverty, and soon, Ryan begins to drift away from his brother by joining a group of gangsters. Despite all this, Uleng decides to take charge by helping out his father sell cigarettes at the market, whom he eventually became close to. Equipped with a talent in singing, Uleng copes with the harsh reality of life through music, and even tries his luck in various singing competitions, helping his father with some of the expenses. However, tragedy rears its ugly head again, as the 16 year-old Ryan ends up in jail for hold-up and robbery! Will things ever look up for Uleng? How will he cope up with this one? Written by
