The protagonist Jack, feels the pressures and anxiety of being a second generation Australian. While Jack wants to do good for starving Africans through the 40-hour famine, he is challenged by his grandparents' experience of war and outlook on 'luck'. Is Jack lucky? Are his grandparents lucky?
