Many are trapped or crushed by the processing equipment that moves the birds along on conveyor belts, while others are trapped in hatching trays before they are pulled into washers, where they are scalded and drowned in hot water. But the story doesn't stop right there, because in Foster Farms that slaughters and ships chickens to grocery stores across the west coast, there are no effective welfare programs supposed to protect birds from prolonged suffering, that sadly continues for said birds.
