Michael seems to suffer from a short-term memory loss problem. He can remember Esmeralda after they meet because he really likes her, but he forgets most of the conversations the two have, making him an easy target as a character for a student publication. Esmeralda exploits Michael's interesting life without fully understanding why he is so different from other men. Michael never really understands Esmeralda, either.
