A man walks up to the table and drops a handful of worms and dirt into the cash box. She looks at his hand and then up at his smiling face. When he reaches down to grab a ticket, she grabs his wrist, but when she does, her skin ripples with light and just for a moment, she has the same face as the man. Let's call this man the Infection. The Infection struts down the aisle to the front of the theater, resembling a B-Movie villain in his black leather jacket and blue jeans, holding a popcorn and smiling to himself. We notice that each person the Infection passes seems to have a shift from normal to agitated behavior. A couple begins arguing, two people argue about seats, though the theater is sparse. As the Infection turns to take a front row seat, he bumps into a stagehand (whose face briefly changes, just like the girl at the ticket table did), who stumbles off, clearly dazed. The stagehand opens his eyes, realizing he is somehow now backstage. He shakes his head, disoriented. The leader of the theater troupe rushes over to the stagehand and shakes him saying "Snap out of it, go get the band, we are almost on" as other people move about in the background. The stagehand stabs his fingers into her chest and says "You don't EVER talk to me like that!" spreading the Infection further. The band for the performance is in the green room tuning their guitars when the stagehand walks in grinning and slicing a peach with a pocketknife. The band watches nervously as the stagehand uses the sharp knife to slide wet peach slices into his mouth. Meanwhile, the Infection is waiting in his seat for the show to begin. He produces a glass of ice and a flask from his jacket and pours himself a drink as the house lights dim. The band huddles for a prayer and then breaks out of it to hit the stage. The stagehand slaps the band leader on the ass as he leaves the room. A worker in the control booth flips switches and adjusts faders on the sound board The ticket taker sits atop the ticket station in the lobby, drinking huge gulps from a liquor bottle and flipping off the remaining people still trying to get tickets. The band begins playing and the performers come to the stage with a chair and a crude stuffed dummy. The theater troupe makes a show of dressing the stuffed dummy as the audience watches, mesmerized. The theater troupe wave their hands about as if casting a spell on the now fully dressed dummy in the chair at center stage. the Infection smiles, turning the ice in his drink slowly clockwise with his fingers as the theater troupe moves in a similar fashion around The Robin. The dummy, now dressed in a tuxedo, twitches and then springs suddenly to life. This performer is The Robin. The audience laughs, breaking into applause as The Robin rises from the chair, moving as if it is just learning to use its legs for the first time. The Robin moves back to his chair when one of the troupe members pulls it away, allowing The Robin to fall on the ground, which was not a planned part of the show. The Infection is laughing so hard he has veins popping out of his neck and popcorn falling from his mouth. The Robin stands up, and dances shakily to the center of the stage. The band starts playing more intensely now as the stage lights flicker. The ticket taker barges into the control booth and snarls. The Infection looks at the audience enjoying themselves and then to The Robin on stage contemptuously. He throws an ice cube from his drink onto the stage, causing The Robin to fall rather hard. The theater troupe are now dressed as rabid fans pulling at The Robin aggressively attempting to get selfies and autographs, going so far as to manually make him sign the pages in the autograph book. The Robin tries to get it's bearings. The remaining stage performer presents an Oscar trophy to The Robin, but then punches him in the stomach with it. The audience loves this. What began as part of the show becomes real violence. The band is no longer playing, two of the members are strangling the singer with their instrument cables. The ticket taker has the control booth operator in a headlock. The Robin slumps as the theater descends into chaos. The Robin is surrounded by the Theater Troupe as the Infection laughs maniacally. The Robin emerges from the clawing theater troupe, now dressed in white robes, bright light and waves of energy spilling out of him, appearing to levitate ever so slightly. Everyone stops fighting, they stare in disbelief. The stagehand is no longer working, but leaning against the wall. He turns to smile at the Infection and gestures toward the chaos The Infection rises from his seat and heads for the stage, taking the stagehands knife as he goes. The Robin holds his arms out, pushing waves of energy and light into the theater, enveloping everyone. The Infection closes the distance in an instant, plunging the knife into The Robin's stomach and ripping off the mask to reveal who has been hiding under there. When the mask comes off, we see that it is none other than the man we have known as the Infection, appearing to have stabbed himself in the stomach. The light and energy are all gone as he falls to the stage. The performers all surround him in shock, unsure of what to do, there is a lot of blood. The audience gives a standing ovation. The last thing we see is The Robin mask resting on a pile of cloth at the foot of the stage. See less
