But when she starts developing mysterious symptoms, her parents know they're dealing with something much more serious. Six months pass before the toddler is finally diagnosed correctly, but by then it may be too late to save her life. 8 BATTERIES AND A PEARL 2 ½ year-old Amaya Rose swallows eight batteries from her great aunt's hearing aid kit. She's rushed to the E.R., where doctors, hoping to avoid major surgery, are unable to retrieve the batteries before they've passed from her stomach. Complicating matters: the batteries are magnetic, posing a grave threat to her intestines. Amaya undergoes emergency abdominal surgery in the hopes that the batteries can come out before they cause internal damage. HANGER When two-year-old Aubrey Gribanow trips with a hanger in his hand, the results are a devastating impalement. Doctors are baffled by the injury and must call in the fire department to try to save the toddler's life. ROCK THAT ROCKED When 3-year old Riley Rogers swallows a rock, his parents make a shocking discovery that may change their lives forever. SCREWDRIVER Sandra Smith is at home in upstate NY with her two daughters on a seemingly quiet night. But when 5 year-old Shelby swallows a screwdriver from her mother's eyeglass repair kit, the night becomes an ordeal of terror. Terrified her daughter could die or suffer permanent damage from the sharp metal object she's swallowed, Sandra races her to the hospital, as doctors must decide whether they'll have to perform risky surgery... or see if Shelby can pass the dangerous object out on her own.
