Doctors told Mike that he would never paddle board again, but after years of retraining his brain, through physical and mental therapy, he was determined to prove them wrong. In the summer of 2021, Mike decided to paddle board across Lake Ontario, from Rochester, New York, to Toronto, Ontario, in an attempt to be the first paddle boarder with a disability to cross international waters. While The Crossing symbolized Mike's personal goal of getting back up on his board, it also acted as a physical event to raise money for youth mental health organizations in Canada and the United States.
