It is the turn of the century and the two have enjoyed moderate success as artists: Margaret as a painter and Alexander as a composer. They never had children, so it was always just the two of them. Now, Alexander is gone, and Margaret does not know how to live her life without him. When Margaret tries to pick up life alone by revisiting her passion, painting, she is overcome with these memories and without meaning to, she paints her husband into any painting she sets out to complete. This is when Margaret has a shocking discovery: when she adds Alexander into her paintings, whatever else she has painted dies in real life. Alexander is able to rejoin Margaret for a short while, feeding off of the life source of whatever Margaret has killed with her painting. The more life Margaret destroys, the longer her husband returns. Obsessed with bringing her husband back, Margaret starts to kill things intentionally, eventually bringing models into her home who she has pose for portraits only to paint Alexander in at the last second. A couple of months into Margaret's murder spree, she invites up ELIZABETH, a young woman who is thrilled with the new technology of photography. Margaret actually forms a relationship with Elizabeth, who is inspired by Margaret as a fellow female artist and takes an interest in her paintings. Margaret almost spares Elizabeth's life, but cannot overcome her need for Alexander. Margaret paints Alexander into the painting, killing Elizabeth. Sickened by the lengths she has gone to bring Alexander back, Margaret chops off her hand, ending her ability to paint and kill. She says goodbye to Alexander for good. A few months later, Margaret has taken to photography, thanks to the Brownie camera Elizabeth left behind. While taking photos, she realizes that her power is still potent, and with photography she can now kill more quickly and efficiently to be with Alexander. She succumbs to the evil impulse and brings Alexander back, killing again. Written by Amanda Sonnenschein See less
