These are mothers who breastfeed their children on demand and only stop when the child decides they are ready - it is not unknown for a child to still be breastfeeding at the age of 7. Other aspects of AP (attachment parenting) include sharing your marital bed with your children, carrying them in a sling past walking age, not putting your child in nappies and 'unschooling', an extreme form of home education where kids only learn what they want when they want. With its back-to-nature and hippy leanings this style of parenting is pretty well established in the US and a growing phenomenon in the UK.
