When he arrives at the barracks, full of the simplicity which might be expected in a villager torn from his home for the first time, he finds life anything but a bed of roses - in the dormitory his bed is let down under him, a pot is poised on the door so that it's contents deluge him, he gets rough treatment in the riding school, and when he attempts to retaliate on his tormentors the water catches the officer instead, and all the party find themselves ordered off to the cells, where the others work off their energy by tossing Merrypimple in a blanket.
