Although Jewish, he had mistakenly been buried under a tombstone marked with a cross. Who was Private Finklestein? How and where was he killed? And why was he buried under a cross? Together with my father, I undertook a search for the answers to these questions -- a search that lasted ten years and ranged over three continents.
