After Anna leaves Robert's apartment, Robert witnesses an argument in the hallway, and discovers then that she is married. The two of them decide to continue their affair, even after Anna's husband nearly catches the lovers in the act. Robert's jealousy takes over and he exposes the affair by planting a note in her home for her son to give to her husband. Anna attempts to end the affair, but it is too late when John comes home and confronts the lovers. Anna leaves the apartment building with her son and drives away to seek a new life on her own.
