It was started by British officer Mr Wattson in 1918. Perhaps one of the earliest forms of treatment for mental illness, trephination, also called trepanation, which involved the opening of a skull using a bore or even saw. They said removing a small section of the skull eased headaches and even cure demonic possession. Today it stands as a testimony to the inhumane practices once used in mental health. Mr Wattson promised employment to people and lured them to work at the asylum and used his practices to cause them a severe mental breakdown, as he wanted to try out his new invented methodology and at the same time his asylum to be biggest in the world. Once a upon a time, it had a strength of 2000 patients. The government was forced to shut it down due to unethical practices. Mr Wattson could not take this loss and hung himself in his home the same night, leaving behind his wife Shikha, who was from Tamil Nadu and their newborn child and all his research about human Psychiatry. He wrote a letter before committing suicide as his last wish, which stated, "To make the world a better place to live, AMEN." Written by
