The father tenderly loves his little girl as does the mother her little girl. The skeleton in the closet is the fondness of the mother for drink and her hatred of the child of her husband's former wife. The cabin accidentally is set on fire and in rescuing his daughter the father is killed and the little one is blinded for life. Fifteen years later the children, grown to womanhood, are discovered in sordid surroundings. The mother has become an absolute slave to drink and in her frenzies she brutally ill-treats the blind child of the dead man. A young artist and his brother meet in one of their rambles the blind girl and her sister.
