When he confronts her at the diner where she works, a phone call from a friend alerts him that Evelyn is instead expecting a marriage proposal. A day of seeking life advice from his friends takes a turn when Runner's ex comes to town to entice him back, and Evelyn makes a play for best friend Shane. Runner's search leads him to seek out his estranged father for advice who lives in an abandoned bus. The long day comes to a climactic finish as Runner races against time to make it to the local playhouse, which is performing the town play "American Dill."
