Nurse NGUYEN THI HOA is sensitive and beautiful. She loves American physician JAMES MARQUIS. But he is oblivious to the shame she feels. She cannot stay with him. Once schoolmates with HOANG VAN NAM, he is now a colonial army soldier. The chance to become an officer sees him betray Nguyen Thi Hoa. She flees again. Working at a trading company run by LI JIRU, the two develop special chemistry. When Li is called to China, coworker XIAO DEGUI showers Nguyen Thi Hoa with attention. The marriage soon follows.
