A vast eco-system in central east Africa, covering an area of almost 15'000 km2 and home to millions of species of birds and animals. The largest animal migration in the world. But do you know of its fragility...? With population booming in East Africa, the pressures of development and poaching are impacting the animals. There is a downward trend in the number of wildebeest - a drop in almost 300'000 over the last ten years. Climate change has also subjected the area to more intense periods of rain and drought raising the prospect of a new threat to the Serengeti's species and their migration. It is our responsibility to understand not just the magnificence before our eyes but the real changes and challenges we are faced with. Written by
