Howie is again the central character as he delves into dating after an infatuation with the older grocer's daughter, Alma Jean Dobson. Meanwhile, Vern's guitar is broken, forcing him to go to the library where he discovers Thomas Wolfe, broadening his horizons. In the end, Vern is dating Alma Jean and Howie has a junior high school sweetheart. Even with the dual storyline of Vern, the show suffers, highlighting the fact that the true strength of the series was the two college men, Wes and Tom-Tom, who barely show up in the final outing. If the series had concentrated on those two it might not have pleased the sponsors, who no doubt were looking for more innocuous fare such as Howie's love life, but it would certainly have scored with a consistent demographic of college aged viewers. Regardless, It's A Man's World had a nice run, leaving behind several brilliant shows and acted as a springboard for all four of the lead's careers which took off in the decade to come.
