In "Nova Scotia: Travelling Blacksmith", Mason Welch, a blacksmith, in an already vanishing trade in his region around Economy, Nova Scotia, has resorted to making his business partly a travelling one, he making such trips three times a year, each trip for a different purpose in shoeing horses in the region primarily for existing customers. In "Quebec: A House Full of Ships", former seaman Eugene Leclerc has turned what was a hobby of model shipbuilding, those models scale replicas accurate to the minutest of details of wooden ships, into a home-based family business when a tourist passerby wanted to purchase one of his models, this story one thousand model ships sold later. And in "British Columbia: Gold in the Cariboo", John MacDougall is the only remaining placer miner in the Cariboo region, he doing his mining near Wells. He employs modern techniques to old fashioned placer mining methods which were more in fashion during the gold rush in this region approximately one hundred years ago. The work is arguably more financially risky today than it was a hundred years ago, $20 million worth of gold mined then in six years, with John's annual gross being $20,000 in a good year.
