He and his wife fear for the safety of their son. During their meal, young Max is spanked for bad behavior, leaves the house, and goes to sit on the front porch. When his parents can't locate him, they conclude he has been kidnapped. The police are called in, as well as Hockshop, a famous sleuth. Heimer advertises a $500 reward for his son's return, which causes the citizens to round up all available children. Then young Max shows up, safe and sound after having taken a nap.
