One day Higgins gets Culver into a gambling game with a stranger and they both lose, although their intention was to "trim" the unknown. As the stranger is leaving in the stagecoach the two decide to hold him up and get back their money. During the excitement, Culver kills the stranger, but having worn a hat of Higgins', Higgins himself is accused of the crime. He is surrounded by a posse and finally hung. Culver stands by and sees his pal strung up from the crime which he had committed. In after years his conscience bears upon him and as his end draws near he realizes that the Master had judged him as a guilty man. Written by
