Imagine such scenes as the Devil Dancers, snarling and grinning, twisting and turning in the ignorance of their belief that such motions will heal their sick and drive away evil spirits. A street scene in Colombo, depicting how tea is transported to the shipping dock is typical of non-progression and fascinates by its remoteness. Another scene shows elephants standing deep in a stream just showing their backs and eyes above the water while others more sportive indulge in unwieldy gambols.
