Boarding a Russian cruise ship starts his journey across the Northwest Passage. A stop off at Beechey Island takes him to three graves from Franklin's ill-fated 1845 Arctic expedition. His fellow passengers get excited when a polar bear is spotted on a nearby island. An ice blockage forces the ship to find an alternative route. Another stop off at King William Island reveals how Franklin's expedition came to a rather gruesome end. He talks about how Roald Admundsen's later and more successful expedition did things much differently whilst in Gjoa Haven. A flight to Tuktoyaktuk sees him explore a huge underground freezer. Hitching a lift with an ice road trucker at Invuik sends him down the Dempsey Highway. A quick pit stop in McPherson takes him to the graves of four unfortunate Mounties. A helicopter flies him to the astonishing beauty that is the Tombstone Territorial Park. His hotel in the old Gold Rush town of Dawson City turns out to be a former brothel. A trip to where gold was first found in the area sees him pay a visit to a man who still works in the industry. Written by
