When he is five Delia proposes to Burly that they open a bed and breakfast. Soon, their first guest arrives. Adderly is in town to give a lecture. He takes a keen interest in Acorn and offers to take him to the city for better schooling. He also buys the family a washing machine. Delia and Burly agree that Acorn can go to Toronto.
