Doodles is an animated 'sketchpad' of original perceptions by eleven neophyte animators. The same short, instrumental jazz piece is repeated over-and-over with a new artist helming the visual interpretation each time. In the end, we see how creative minds can envision the same piece of music so originally and so differently. Employing the technique of handmade filmmaking (a la McLaren), the artists draw and paint directly onto 35mm celluloid using a wide spectrum of artist materials; i.e. stained-glass ink, India ink, markers, watercolours, gouache, air-brush, collage and rubbings. The colours and textures create a myriad of vibrant and fascinating animated explorations. Written by George Ungar See less
