As well as putting myself into...See moreI have spent the past 19 years, battling against depression in pursuit of the state of childhood, which I experienced under the age of 7 years old. When I say "depression", I mean a general state of lethargy. As well as putting myself into precarious situations with people that I never want to see again in order to retrieve this state, I have exercised self-development techniques such as NLP, Neville Goddard's creative visualisation and Landmark. But it is role play and watching RuPaul's Drag Race, which gave me the final push in my struggle. Engaging in my own interpretation of "drag"(woman-to-child) has lead me to realise the ultimate fluidity of human identity. I might look and behave like a biologically defined woman on the outside, but I never related to either gender. As a toddler and teenager, I was disgusted by Barbie dolls, make-up and dating boys. I always felt like a liminal space: like my own version of Edward Said's "Other". So, I relate most to people, who are borderline similarly to the drag queens, who are searching for their true identity. Thanks to all of these weird, disturbing, but liberating experiences, which enabled me to finally exit my lethargic, adult state. This video celebrates my transition back to my childhood state.
