By recreating the twists ...See moreFrom the heart of Africa to the world, a musical form was transformed through its contact with other cultures. The miscegenation of Lundu gave birth to Fado, Samba and music on the planet began to become global. By recreating the twists and the turns of music beginning with slaves taken in shackles on lateen sailboats, this process will also tell the story of human migrations starting with the Age of Exploration, with its cultural, social and erotic interaction. Voyages through time and space will enable the senses to perceive these connections, while our eyes and ears will be focused on the dance and the music. The similarities between the music and the choreography of Lundu and Fado are so great that many conclude that while it was a folk dance in Brazil, twenty years before its emergence as music in Portugal, Fado was a specific form of Lundu which originates in the traditions of the African Bantu peoples. The music coming from Africa mixed and changed, in this manner, in Cape Verde under "ladinization" - when a slave was baptized and given a (new) Christian name. The value of the human being increased in the inverse proportion to the suffering of his soul. We will create a narrative made up of images and sounds and of the people who carry stories that speak for themselves through an atypical structure tied to the physical space of Cape Verde, Portugal and Brazil through which, the musicians, carriers of Sambas, Mornas, Fados and always of Lundu, moved.
