His fate appears to be sealed, but the favorite of the Moorish chief promises to win some information from him, and tries her wiles. He is true to his absent wife, however; and when she, appears suddenly in man's clothes, bent on rescuing her husband - the favorite is won over to her side. The three escape together, reach the castle in safety, but the Moors are on the track; the dead of night they scale an almost precipitous wall and creep in upon the defenders unawares. The favorite is on the spot once more, and gives alarm, but she pays for her loyalty to her new friends with her life, and just as the Moors are driven back over the ramparts, she dies, with husband and wife kneeling beside her.
