With no family and few options, they struggle to find a secure future for themselves. Sabina sells drugs with hopes of earning money for college. Joey hopes for a raise and, thereby, Sabina's love. When his efforts repeatedly end in failure, Joey comes to rely more and more on the drugs that Sabina sells to bolster his flagging self-esteem, which ultimately costs Sabina the one true, secure thing in her life.
