He is very much disturbed by the presence of her little brother, Master Fixit, who lets his rare specimens of "bugology" out of his basket, very much interfering with his love-making. Evidently young Fixit takes a pronounced dislike to the professor. It is quite different when Edward Walton, a young city chap, appears upon the scene. This presence is somewhat unexpected. He is fishing in a stream for trout and Master Fixit, seeing his trout fly floating upon the stream, picks it up and fastens it in his sister's dress. Young Walton thinks he has made a catch. So he has, but it is not the kind of a fish he anticipated, but it serves as an introduction to the pretty girl. Immediately a rivalry springs up between Walton and the professor. Master Fixit enters into an agreement with his friend Walton to get rid of "the buggy gentleman" and fix it so Walton will have the field all to himself. He does this with his slingshot, which he uses upon the most convenient part of the professor's anatomy, also by leading him a chase in the direction of a bear trap, which fastens itself to the studious gentleman and from which he is released by Walton.
