She decides to make him think that he is dead. When he speaks to her, she doesn't answer. She dresses in black. The maid and her beau went to a masquerade ball that evening. She was dressed as an angel and he was dressed as a devil. Snookums sees the maid and thinks she is from heaven. He follows her into the kitchen. There he tries to kiss her and upsets a lamp.
