The couple quarrel over their differences, and separate. John takes his young son, Charlie, and Florence takes little Tessie. Happiness prevails for the latter two, but trouble reigns in John's new home. His almost brutal treatment of Charlie causes neighbors to complain. They form a mob and threaten to lynch John. He flees with Charlie from a rear door. The infuriated populace gives chase. John is almost overtaken when he comes to Florence's new home. He is forced to seek shelter there in the home of happiness. As a thanksgiving offering for his narrow escape, he avows "never again." A reconciliation follows.
