It's no different in the world of science, as they'll learn in The Periodic Table -- a fun and engaging look at the road map of the elements. Young students will learn about key information included on the table, including atomic number, atomic mass and chemical symbol. They'll learn about the creator of the original periodic table, Dimitri Mendeleev, and discover how he grouped elements together based on their similar properties. The arrangement of the modern table is covered in depth, including a look at the periods, groups and the various families of elements. Kids are introduced to the concept of electron shells and how they are involved in the bonding of atoms, and why some elements are highly reactive while others are very stable. Includes fun visuals, colorful graphics and a hands-on activity, which demonstrates that different elements have different chemical properties. One of 16 volumes in the Physical Science in Action Video Series. Grades 5-8. See less
