Klaus Rifbjerg breaks through as a provocateur, theater and filmmaker and modernist poet. The modernists attack everything old-fashioned and populist. Tove Ditlevsen and her husband, Victor Andreasen, editor-in-chief of Ekstra Bladet, are among their targets. The population gets divided in two when warehouse manager Rindal starts a revolt against state support for the artists. This leads to heated debates about whether mermaid beheading and sacrificing a horse can be art. The 68 generation bring new music, fashion, art and political ideals with them, and suddenly Rifbjerg is the one old-fashioned. See less
