This image wears robes decorated with ...See morePepe Montillo is a Spanish matador who has a superstitious belief that his prayers to his particular holy image -- La Virgen De Macarena-- is what keeps him from death on the horns of the bull. This image wears robes decorated with precious gems and has a string of valuable pearls around its neck. When it is stolen, Pepe refuses to fight any more until it is returned. To hid his superstitious fear he lets it be known that he is sick. Robin is retained to recover the image and its jewelry by the insurance company which covered it for five million pesetas. He finds that there are reasons other than money why the Virgin might have been stolen. Among them a desire to keep Pepe from returning to the ring. In the end he pins the theft to Pepe's cousin, Carlos, a rich playboy, who motive was to recoup his losses at the gambling tables. See less
