His mother is sick, rent is due and there is no money to meet current debts. Father works but refuses to support his family, and spends all his earnings at the saloon. Jerry and his sister decide that both shall go to the saloon and bring father back, leaving their infant brother in charge of Jerry's pet elephant as the nurse. Father refuses to listen, so Jerry hits upon a new plan. He takes the elephant to the saloon. The occupants scatter and the elephant starts on a course of destruction, ending by picking up the cash register and carrying it home. Father, who has preceded Jerry, begs forgiveness, and receives it upon condition that he promise never to drink again. With the money in the cash register Jerry pays the doctor and the landlord and buys a sumptuous repast, of which all, including the elephant, partake with relish. Written by
