This one friend, Griscombe, gives Foster a thousand dollars and advises him to go west and begin his life anew. Foster takes the money and invite and sets out for the Rocky Mountains with his valet Hopkins. In Canyonville, Foster earns the gratitude of Loco Holmes, an eccentric old man, by saving him from a rough crowd in a saloon. Loco Holmes takes Foster into partnership with remarkably successful results. To Foster a far harder blow than losing his money has been the fact that Mary Livingstone, the girl he was engaged to, refused to have anything more to do with him when she discovered he was a poor man. In Alice Holmes, Loco's daughter, the young man finds something that was lacking in the mercenary Miss Livingstone. The mine soon shows prospects of being enormously valuable. Foster goes east to raise capital. His friends sneer openly at his story of the mine's richness and refuse to risk any money on the venture. Foster inserts a typical "get rich quick" advertisement in the newspapers. Results are instantaneous and astounding. Foster is almost overwhelmed by the floods of money which pour in. Federal authorities arrest Foster for illegally using the mails to promote worthless mine, but Loco Holmes and Alice arrive just in time to disprove this accusation by showing a valise-load of nuggets lately taken from the mine. Foster shuns the repentant and affectionate Miss Livingstone, and returns to the west with Alice Holmes. Written by Moving Picture World synopsis See less
