Wanting to impress her, he tells her that he is an officer in the bank, neglecting to mention that he is actually a security officer--a bank guard. Mary, on her part, tells him that her father is an engineer, but it turns out that he's actually an "engineer" on a steamroller. They are instantly attracted to each other, though, and romance blooms, resulting in their being engaged to be married.
