Nichette is a dancer for a Parisian ballet company and beloved by a young physician, but she refuses to leave the stage for his sake and they quarrel. The young physician does a certain amount of charity work and stumbles upon the case of a small child with a low fever which could become dangerous. He warns the child's father to keep her quiet and tells the neighbors on the floor below of her condition. But the father, a drunken brute, drives the little one out to beg for pennies, which he uses to gratify his craving for drink. The little one wanders to the stage door to beg, and her heated imagination fastens itself upon the poster showing Mlle. Nichette and her ballet--and brings the poster to life: Mlle. Nichette performs just for one little fan. When it fades out, the poor child's little head droops upon the sidewalk, and it's there that the doctor finds her. He picks her up and carries her back to her dingy tenement, where he discovers that nothing will soothe her but the dance which she thinks she has seen. He is torn between the desire to save his little patient and his intention to never see the dancer again. His humanity wins and going to the theater he simply tells the dancer the story of the little waif's malady. Her large heart at once responds, and taking her chorus and musicians with her, she repairs to the place. They climb the dingy stairs and enter the garret room where the little one lies upon her pallet of straw, and then, beginning softly, they perform the splendid Parisian ballet for their solitary, pitiful little spectator. The little one's brain is satisfied and she soon falls into a deep, healthy sleep. There was a purpose beneath all this that neither the doctor nor the dancer understood, but which brought them together and resulted in the renewal of their love story to a happy conclusion.
