Since Uncle John is going to leave Henry a million or so, naturally he is made welcome and when Nell, Henry's wife, gets a letter from her mother, announcing a visit, she wires her not to come, because Uncle John does not like mothers-in-law, having had one of his own once upon a time. Unfortunately mother has already arrived and the situation is saved only by Nell's quick-witted announcement that mother is her sister, and to help along the deception, Nell slips the wedding ring off of her mother's hand. Uncle John takes a decided liking to the classy "sister," but he stills fears that the mother will intrude and he lays in a stock of revolvers, a couple of buckets of water and he is ready to stand siege. He even takes a chance on the old lady becoming his mother-in-law for he has proposed to the "sister" and has been accepted. A passer-by sits on the steps to rest. Uncle John thinks she is the mother, so he drenches her with water and shoots after her. This precipitates the explanation that the "sister" is really the mother, and joy comes to Uncle John when it is announced that she is a widow, so after all, what should he care? Written by
