She was an only child and used to having her own way in nearly everything, and though of a vivacious nature, cheerful and sunny, the indulgence of her friends and relatives had made her the least bit headstrong. When her mother decided that they visit Yellowstone Park, May insisted that her fiancée be invited to accompany them and succeeded in having her way. Their trip was a very pleasant one, indeed, until May took it into her pretty small head to climb down over a dangerous cliff into the bottom of the canyon to see the falls as they looked from below. Naturally her sweetheart was appalled at the danger and insisted that she do nothing so hazardous. May became angry, called him a coward for not wanting to accompany her, gave him back the ring and broke their engagement. Then seeking a Western guide, she started out to make the climb anyway. Climbing down the face of the precipice, one of the rocks which furnished her handhold broke off and she fell and would have been dashed to pieces by the hundreds of rocks below had she not landed upon a narrow ledge a few feet below her where her grip failed. Mercifully she fainted and lay unconscious on the rocky shelf. Meanwhile the lover, suspecting that she was carrying out her determination, was making haste toward the spot. On his way he met the Western guide, who was hurrying back for assistance. Together they returned to the edge of the precipice and with the aid of a rope Jack lowered himself to May's unconscious form, and after fastening the rope securely about her, climbed back to the top and May was drawn up to safety. When he carries the still unconscious girl back to the hotel, her mother, thinking him in a measure responsible for the accident, and knowing that they had a quarrel, orders Jack to leave the hotel, which he does. When May regains consciousness she experiences a revulsion of feeling, but her sweetheart has gone. She is inconsolable until they meet again at Old Faithful Inn, where they are happily reunited.
