The new bride forces Flouka, Messaoud's first wife, to become her servant. Flouka rebels and is being roughly treated by Messaoud when an American, passing by, interferes. He takes Flouka with him as his housekeeper. Some time later Messaoud calls upon the American and assures him that he bears him no ill will. While the men are drinking together Messaoud poisons the American's drink. But he has been observed by Flouka and, seeing an opportunity to be revenged upon Messaoud and at the same time save her defender's life, she reverses the position of the drinks, making Messaoud the victim of his own treachery.
