Jeven schemes with his wife to marry off Yetta first. Rose is in love, unknown to her father, with Abe Levee, a rising young businessman, but knowing her father's tendencies in the matter of marrying his older daughter first, she is backward about telling him of her love affair. But his pathetic pining that Yetta be married hurts Rose and she suggests to him that if she married and went away maybe some other fellow would take Yetta. Her father admonishes her not to think of such a thing. She informs Abe that for the present their love making is at an end. Jeven decides he will call in Cohen, the matchmaker, and have him find a husband for Yetta. Cohen gets out his booklet of names and suggests Abe Levee would be a likely young fellow. This is overheard by Rose. Cohen suggests that if he is given a picture of Yetta he will take it up with Abe. They give him Yetta's picture in an envelope, which he puts in his hat, while he finds out further particulars. Yetta, out of sympathy for Rose, substitutes Rose's picture. Cohen chases up Abe and asks him why he doesn't get married. Abe refuses to listen but Cohen forces the issue and tells Abe that if he will marry the girl in the picture her father will give him a thousand dollars. Abe looks at the picture and finds that it is his Rose. He informs Cohen that he would marry such a girl for nothing. Cohen leaves to inform Jeven to get ready for the marriage. Abe sends a shirtwaist from his stock addressed to "My Darling," which is delivered to Yetta. The match is considered sealed and Rose's heart is broken, thinking that Abe has forsaken her. On the day of the wedding, Abe comes to the restaurant which is in gala attire for the affair, meets the family, and asks to see the bride. He is all consternation when Yetta is led out. Yetta explains secretly to him and tells him to run away with Rose and marry her. They make a getaway and are married by a justice of the peace. Returning to the waiting guests, Abe insists that Cohen should rectify his mistake by marrying Yetta. She is willing and he consents finally in consideration of the dowry.
