Unfortunately she catches him in a grouchy mood, and she is refused. Anne surprises her father by telling him that she will EARN the thousand. Father laughs, and promises her an additional five thousand if she can do it. Father starts on a trip to Europe and Anne starts on her drive to earn money. She advertises for boarders and soon her father's palatial home is filled with paying guests. Grief first comes to her when a couple of acrobats practice their act in their bedroom, bringing down the plaster and the chandelier in the living room. Next, someone strikes a Chinese gong, and the hungry boarders, thinking it is lunch-time, nearly kill Anne in the rush. She herds them all back to, their rooms after explaining the mistake. The butler and maid resign and Jimmie, Anne's sweetheart, is pressed into service as cook. Father, having missed the boat, returns to the house to find his room occupied by a lady boarder. He beats the gong for the servants and is caught in the grand rush for the dining room. He orders Anne to get rid of the boarders, promising her the money for her trousseau if she is successful. Anne tries to smoke them out, but they refuse to budge. Jimmie gets an idea. He connects the ice-machine with the radiators. The temperature soon drops below freezing point and the boarders clamor for heat, and failing to get it, demand their money back. They all leave the house, while Jimmie and Anne, after finding father getting warm in the oven, counts the money for Anne's trousseau. Written by Press Sheet from Library of Congress See less
