He tries to smoke on the sly, but she catches him. She goes away on a visit. Charlie immediately invites some friends up and they smoke to their heart's content. The room is soon filled with smoke. Vivian returns unexpectedly, sees the smoke coming from one of the windows and thinks the house is afire. She calls the fire department. The firemen play the hose on Charlie and his friends. Charlie gets hold of the hose and nearly wrecks the house. Vivian enters and he drenches her also. Peace is finally restored and Vivian promises never to stop Charlie's smoking again.
