The organ grinder comes to the gate of the ...See moreLittle Dorothy's parents are rich, but the child is very lonesome. Rosa, a tiny Italian tot, goes with her father, who carries an organ. She gets variety, but would like to play a while, too. The organ grinder comes to the gate of the residence of Dorothy's father and plays, and little Dorothy in attracted to the gate. A wistful little face looks through the gate at the dowers and Dorothy gives her some, and they are soon chatting joyfully. Rosa comes often and one day nurse, ordering the child to stay inside and play, goes for a short auto ride with the chauffeur. The organ grinder comes, and Rosa asks her father if they may play with Dorothy, who has stolen out of the gate. The children play in the garden, and Rosa says, "Let's go to my home now and play mud pies." They run off and have a fine time and play with water and mud, and are found by the anxious organ grinder later when Dorothy is taken home to her parents, who are looking for her. Later on Dorothy falls sick, and continually calls for her playmate. At last Rosa and her father come and play at the gate, and Dorothy hears them and begs for Rosa. The child is brought, and after kissing Rosa, the spirit of the poor little rich girl goes to her Maker. Rosa goes away puzzled by sorrow. As she passes the gardener she asks him why he plants the seed. He tells her, "When a pretty flower dies, it leaves a seed, and God lets it grow again." Rosa gets home and thinks it out, and being lonesome, decides to plant her dolly, so that it may grow to be a nice playmate for her. She does this and one night, believing it to be lonesome too, goes and sits by the grave of her precious doll. The rain comes down and the night passes into the faint streaks of the rosy morning, when the spirit of Dorothy comes and smiles on the little Italian girl, and raising her, she leads her off to the place where one never suffers.
