Little Evelyn invites the old musician into her home. As her father and mother gather around, the old man relates the story of his life. As her father and mother gather around, the old man relates the story of his life. We see him as a promising young man, entertaining his wife and child with selections on the violin. The mother takes the child to bed and a party of friends drops in to invite the musician to accompany a hunting expedition next day. When his friends have departed he begins to clean his rifle, which accidentally discharges, the bullet penetrating the ceiling and killing his wife in the room above. Crazed by grief the musician is committed to an asylum, where he is confined for twenty years. When he is finally released he visits his old home, only to find there is no trace of his child. As the old musician completes his sad story, little Evelyn's mother starts to her feet, and exclaims: "Father! Don't you know me? I am your little girl of long ago!"
